About the Role:
Our client, a leader in the renewable energy sector, is seeking an experienced Chartered Mechanical Design Engineering Manager to lead their engineering team focused on heat pump products and sustainable heating solutions. This role involves overseeing the full design and operational processes of heat pump systems, coordinating resources, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting innovation to achieve the company's net-zero objectives.

The ideal candidate will manage daily project delivery, working closely with internal teams, contractors, and clients to deliver efficient and compliant solutions. This is a strategic position that combines technical expertise with leadership in a growing sector focused on sustainable heating.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Mechanical Design and Operations Management

* Oversee the design, installation, maintenance, and service operations for heat pump systems.
* Ensure project timelines and specifications are met, coordinating with design and installation teams.
* Optimize resource allocation and manage team workload effectively to meet project goals.

2. Team Leadership and Development

* Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers, technicians, and contractors, fostering a collaborative environment.
* Work closely with cross-functional teams, including sales, design, and procurement, to streamline operations.
* Ensure ongoing training for team members on the latest heat pump technologies and design methodologies.

3. Quality Assurance and Compliance

* Ensure all heat pump designs and installations comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
* Implement health and safety protocols on-site and ensure quality checks are consistently met.
* Maintain detailed documentation for audits, certifications, and compliance records.

4. Strategic Development and Innovation

* Collaborate with senior leadership to set goals and key results (OKRs) for heat pump product lines.
* Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost reduction within design and engineering operations.
* Develop strategies to introduce new heat pump technologies and innovative designs in line with net-zero goals.

5. Client and Stakeholder Engagement

* Act as the primary technical point of contact for commercial clients on heat pump projects.
* Work with business development to address client needs and support project proposals.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, contractors, and external partners.

6. Change Management and Technology Implementation

* Lead the integration of new technologies and design processes for heat pump systems.
* Ensure the engineering team is well-equipped and trained to handle transitions to advanced sustainable heating products.

7. Budgeting and Reporting

* Manage budgets for design and operational activities related to heat pump projects.
* Provide regular updates on project progress, operational efficiency, and budget adherence to senior management.
* Track key metrics, such as design completion timelines, cost management, and client satisfaction.

Qualifications:

* Chartered Engineer (CEng) status in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related discipline (Master's degree preferred).
* 5-7+ years of experience in renewable energy, HVAC, or heat pump design and engineering.
* Project management certification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) is an asset.
* Proven experience managing large-scale heat pump installations or renewable energy projects.

Working Conditions:

* Primarily based in the office, with some fieldwork to oversee project sites and ensure design implementation.
* Occasional travel to client meetings or project locations as required.
* Ability to handle multiple tasks in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities.
