Our client is looking to recruit a Transport Manager to their expanding team at a new customer site as part of their continued growth plan.

Transport Manager job - Position Summary
The Transport Manager is responsible to the Head of Logistics for the delivery of services to our valued customer, profitably, whilst meeting the highest standards of compliance and driving revenue and productivity across the business.

* Implementation and continuous improvement of use of company bespoke planning software system
* Strong customer facing skills in order to build and grow relationship with new customer
* Effective driver management
* Strong people management skills
* Commercially minded individual is essential as the achievement of targeted cost savings is vital

Transport Manager job - Responsibilities

Motivation and Guidance
* Ensure the team understand and are behind the vision and strategy of the business
Operational profitability
* Ensure that profitability is maximised
Procurement of goods / services
* Ensure that all spending is controlled, documented and minimised
Customer Service
* Liaising with the customer's representatives on a regular basis (as based on their site) with a view to improving service standards and boosting revenue growth
Effective Driver Management
* Scheduling and supervising a team of drivers compliantly to minimise cost through effective utilisation of telematics and driver behavioural data
* Identifying training requirements through use of driver assessment and telematics data and monitoring resulting improvements
* Thorough investigation of all RTAs and preventative actions implemented
* Ensure company planning software is effectively utilised to its potential including particularly walkaround checks and order processing and tracking activities
* Effective implementation of Timeslot Management System
* Identify opportunities for improvement and potential development to boost productivity and profitability
* Collaborate with other managers and staff members in order to formulate and implement policies, procedures, goals, and objectives that will drive improvement
Transport Manager
* Becoming the named Transport Manager for a specific area of the company Operator's Licence
* Compliance
Effectively and continuously manage the site's transport activities, including:
* Make arrangements to ensure drivers comply with driver's hours and tachograph rules, and within speed limits.
* Vehicles are maintained properly, including the inspection of vehicles at the appropriate time and action taken to remedy defects.
* Ensure accurate inspection records are kept for no less than 15 months
* Continuous improvement on driver infringements and performance
* Compile cost and performance KPI suite for the Head of Operations
* Coordinating driver training, inductions, annual refresher training and maintaining accurate records
* Ensure poor performance and notifiable incidents are documented, investigated and actions taken to prevent re-occurrence
* Ensure all vehicles have the correct O licence disc displayed in the windscreen
* Monitor digital tachograph cards and their use, expiry or replacement dates
* Regular briefings with staff to ensure they are aware of expectations, any changes or customer issues - record on tool box talk templates and have the document signed by all attendees.
* Ensure vehicle units and digital tachograph cards are downloaded within the appropriate timescales and company cards are obtained, managed and used accordingly
Effective Staff Management
* Carry out staff disciplinary hearings, investigations, return to work interviews and periodic performance reviews, and ensure H&S policy adhered to
Ingrained Quality System
* Ensure the Business' Quality Procedures are updated, ingrained - lived and breathed

Transport Manager job - Specific Skills and Experience
* Previous experience of managing fleets and driver bases in multi-site logistics operations
* Experience of General Haulage work an advantage.
* Transport Manager CPC
* Experience of effectively championing a safety culture
* Powerful intent and values around the adoption and implementation of technology
* Excellent interpersonal and motivational skills
* Leadership and motivational skills - dynamism, energy, drive and humour
* Business skills - numeracy and IT literacy
