Job title: Web Portal Technical Lead - Ruby on Rails
Location: Sheffield / London / Hybrid home working
Term: Permanent
Salary: Up to £40,000 per annum, + excellent benefits

As a Web Portal Technical Lead, you will be responsible for the standards, quality and technical approach taken by the Portal Application Team, ensuring it is in-line with the IT strategy and that projects are delivered with minimum risk, on time, and on budget.

You will be responsible for Portal Platform design and delivery, ensuring business stakeholders needs are met and bringing your knowledge and experience to exceed those expectations, as well as oversight and day to day management of a team of internal & external development resources to deliver the Portal roadmap.

You will work closely with the Business Analysts to ensure requirements are gathered and accurate information is provided, liaising effectively with business and technical stakeholders, and build strong working relationships and open lines of communication with third parties, as well as managing outsourced providers, holding suppliers accountable for delivering effective solutions within given timeframes.

Knowledge and experience:

• Manage the application delivery team ensuring best practice is followed and deliveries are in line with the architectural principles by following appropriate IT Governance processes
• Become the technical subject matter expert for Portal Application within company to accurately respond to any questions and issues relating to the Application and Platform
• Play lead role in defining changes to the Portal platform by understanding the business requirements as well as the technical impact of the changes
• Communicate effectively with colleagues, confidently relaying technical information to a non-technical audience when required
• Manage all changes to the Portal Application platform ranging from small fixes and improvements to large projects; ensuring that any changes continue to meet business needs
• Work closely with the Business Analysts to ensure requirements are gathered and accurate information is provided
• Liaising effectively with business and technical stakeholders
• Effectively manage and continuously adapt to changing priorities based on business needs
• Review low level technical designs to ensure solution meets team functional and non-functional requirements
• Collaboration tools such as JIRA/Trello is kept up to date with latest Delivery/Release information
• Provide periodic Project Report to Business and IT stakeholders

Knowledge and Experience:
• 6+ years of Software Life cycle development in Open-Source Web Application Framework
• Have worked as a senior software engineer or technical lead, primarily working with Ruby on Rails
• Have designed websites and backend systems and APIs to a high standard of security, reliability, and operability
• Strong knowledge of SDLC, Git based versioning systems and CI/CD, automated functional and integration tests
• Experience in full stack development (UI, API, Service, Storage)
• Good Understanding of Java Scripts and CSS concepts
• Experience in Collaboration Tools such as Trello/JIRA
• Good understanding of MYSQL Database
• Ability to lead internal developer team and liaise with stakeholders at various level


Educated to degree level or hold equivalent experience
