MECHANICAL ESTIMATOR
Location: Cambridge or Colchester (Hybrid - 1-2 days WFH)

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join the pre-construction team. This role involves preparing and managing tenders for mechanical packages valued between £3 million and £8 million, while also supporting smaller works around £100,000 in value. Total MEP project values handled by the business can reach up to £15 million. You'll join a team of three Mechanical and four Electrical Estimators, with the flexibility to work from home one to two days per week.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for mechanical building services from drawings, specifications, and tender documents.
* Complete material and labour take-offs and compile comprehensive cost analyses.
* Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations to ensure competitive pricing.
* Prepare tender summaries, cost comparisons, and adjudication reports.
* Contribute to design development and value engineering exercises.
* Work closely with electrical estimators, project managers, and the wider pre-construction team.
* Support small works estimating on quick turnaround tenders (around £100k).
* Maintain supplier and subcontractor relationships and up-to-date market knowledge.
* Attend pre-tender and post-tender meetings when required.
* Ensure all estimates are accurate, compliant, and aligned with company standards.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
* Proven experience as a Mechanical Estimator within building services or M&E contracting.
* Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and public health systems.
* Experience managing mechanical packages from £3M-£8M and MEP projects up to £15M.
* Commercially aware with strong analytical and negotiation skills.
* Competent in reading drawings and tender documents.
* IT proficient (Excel and estimating software).
* Organised, detail-oriented, and capable of handling multiple tenders.
* Strong communication and teamwork skills.
* Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between offices if required.
